Meet Kate
Hi I’m Kate and I’ve been teaching piano for close to 25 years. My students call me Miss Kate. My life & perspective on learning piano and music changed radically when I was first trained in a curriculum that integrated music concepts with games! I did not learn that way 😂. I never knew such a way existed until then & I haven’t looked back! And it’s been my experience ever since that this is the way piano ought to be taught to if you want a joyful and fulfilling outcome for your child.
Though I don’t do group classes anymore, every lesson includes fun and engaging content for children and adults to learn how to play piano and love music. Practice is highly encouraged — but not for pursuing perfection, but pursuing progress and developing habits to achieve lasting results. When a student has practiced for their lesson, we are going to have a great time!
Frustration will happen but I have a game for that☺️🎶. My philosophy is that students learn through fun and involved activities that they can be a part of vs being lectured to. I love being a music coach to students and watching their eyes light up when they’ve conquered a difficult concept, or truly worked through music passages that are challenging for them. Breaking down concepts into smaller more manageable challenges is how I love to teach so that a sense of accomplishment is felt by the student, and, most importantly, that concept is learned for the long term.
Feel free to book a 20 minute session with me to see if working with me is a fit for the both of us. I work on a monthly tuition basis and do not do make up lessons. My policy is that if you must miss a lesson, they can submit their assignment for the week via a video and I will listen and go through their playing and their theory. I will then submit my inputs via a video back to you that week. Also if your child is sick, online lessons are available and appreciated since I have an immune compromised condition.
